Protected Characteristics
Children need to gain an understanding of the world they are growing up in, and learn how to live alongside, and show respect for, a diverse range of people. At Westgate Hill Primary Academy, we equip children with the understanding that they need to do this. The Equality Act 2010 aims to prevent discrimination. It is illegal to discriminate against people based on these protected characteristics. Children at Westgate Hill learn about these through our curriculum, through assemblies and carefully planned lists of books throughout EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
Below is a list of the protected characteristics that are taught at our school, and some examples of books that we read to give our children an understanding of what they are.
