LAMDA
London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art
At Westgate Hill Primary Academy, we inspire and empower learners to be confident communicators. The London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is a prestigious programme that helps young people develop speech, drama, and communication skills. We are so proud to deliver LAMDA sessions at Westgate Hill for groups of children in Key Stage 2. The sessions are delivered on a one-to-one and small-group basis each week. Thanks to Laidlaw funding, pupils have the opportunity to take internationally recognised graded examinations, which allows them to develop their vocabulary, spoken English and memorisation skills, setting them up for future success. Our pupils have impressed examiners with their ability to speak clearly and fluently, demonstrate vocal contrast, and use facial expressions to convey emotion.

We are proud to announce that Maria, one of our very talented LAMDA pupils, recently performed at the Globe Theatre in London as part of the national Poetry by Heart competition. Although Maria just missed out on claiming 1st prize, she was the regional finalist for the North East. She certainly made us proud here at Westgate Hill Primary Academy!

We are also proud to be asked to perform at the 'Imagine If' event in November 2025. The regional event was hosted by the Great North Museum : Hancock and organised by the North East Museums and the North East Combined Authority. Colleagues from education and cultural sectors came together to 'Imagine If... teaching across the North East was truly inclusive, creative and empowering.'
