Safeguarding

Safeguarding at Westgate Hill Primary Academy

At Westgate Hill Primary Academy, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We are committed to fostering an open and positive safeguarding culture that always puts the interests and safety of our pupils first. Our whole-school approach ensures that all staff are well-trained, vigilant, and empowered to act promptly if they have any concerns about a pupil’s welfare, whether the risks arise within school, at home, or online. We maintain a vigilant attitude of ‘it could happen here’ and work closely with safeguarding partners and relevant agencies to protect pupils from all forms of harm, including neglect, abuse, exploitation, and online dangers.

We take the safeguarding of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) very seriously, recognising that these pupils may face additional barriers and risks both online and offline. Our staff maintain professional curiosity, never assuming that an injury or behaviour is solely linked to a pupil’s needs, and are alert to signs such as self-harm or behavioural disclosure as possible indicators of abuse. We ensure that pupils with SEND receive extra pastoral support and communication tailored to their preferred methods, so they feel as safe and supported as their peers. Our safeguarding arrangements include close collaboration between the designated safeguarding lead and the SENCO to ensure timely and appropriate action is taken to protect vulnerable pupils.

We actively listen to the views of pupils, parents, and staff to ensure concerns are addressed swiftly and transparently. Our safeguarding policies and procedures are regularly reviewed to maintain the highest standards of protection, including rigorous safer recruitment practices and careful monitoring of pupil attendance to identify any safeguarding risks.

Your child’s safety is our top priority, and we are dedicated to providing a secure environment where every pupil can thrive and feel safe every day.
