BackReligious Education
Westgate Hill Primary Academy is made up of children from many different countries, cultures and faiths. The Religious Education curriculum at Westgate Hill Primary Academy actively encourages children to be respectful, accepting and embracing of what makes each of us unique. The children are given regular opportunities to discuss the beliefs and values that they hold and they also have regular opportunities to listen to other friends doing the same. By teaching R.E in this way, children are able to understand more about what they believe whilst also highlighting that other children may have different views. As a result children are taught the importance of accepting the differences of others.
Over the course of each year, children are also able to share in the learning and experiencing of different celebrations together. At Westgate Hill, it is so important that every child feels valued. In order to ensure this is achieved, a number of festivals from different faiths are covered as part of the R.E lessons in the school, and each year we hold a special Eid event for parents to celebrate together. Children are also able to try different foods from a range of festivals at the various themed lunch events that take place throughout the year.
The R.E curriculum is also striving to strengthen links with both parents and the wider community. This is achieved through visitors from the local faith community coming into school and through parental events that happen over the course of the year. Westgate Hill seeks to help children become members of society who are accepting of different faiths and cultures with the understanding that everyone is different and everyone is unique. It is greatly believed that if children are able to establish these views from an early age, then these values will be carried through into later life, allowing a society where everyone is accepted to exist.
